Courtyard Screening is a space for art, intimate gatherings and a shared appreciation for the
moving image. Stories have always been travelling - geographically, temporally, spatially - used
to create common understandings for unknown things, desires, griefs, laughter and giving us an
insight to ourselves and others. From South African to international productions, Courtyard
Screening is a platform that unites.

  • Killer of Sheep (Charles Burnett, USA, 1987)
  • La Haine (Mathieu Kassovitz, FR, 1995)
  • Air Conditioner (Fradique, AN, 2021)
  • Africa is the Future (Nicolas Premier, FR/CD)
  • Run George (Vuyani Makausu, SA 2021)
  • Old Soul Waiting (Slindile Mthembu, SA 2021)
  • House (org. Hausu) 1977 Japan.

From independent feature films, short films or digital art productions, Courtyard Screening is developing a rich and engaging programming where guests are invited not only to be taken on visual journey but also to be part of a growing community and participate in live artist talks and director Q&A’s.

Courtyard Screening is a female led initiative and supports alternative platforms for film and art presentation and highlights a creative community that stands for inclusion, exchange and
diversity within the creative craft. The space is intimate and outside in a courtyard and offers a safe environment with good films, conversations and food. Courtyard Screening is produced and curated by Thati Pele (film director) and myself in collaboration with Marea Lewis (owner of Toasted).
